Hi Wild One! Did you know that OSEA launched in 1996, way before “clean beauty” even existed? Their founder Jenefer started formulating clean, safe and effective skincare from the sea in her kitchen when she couldn’t find products to meet her high standards. 

Now, nearly 30 years later, OSEA's mission remains the same: to share the healing power of the sea with products that respect the natural world and make skin look and feel its absolute best.

If you’re new to OSEA, we’re excited to welcome you! Here are five fun facts about this wonderful brand that we're delighted to now share with you in the shop:

1. OSEA’s name stands for: Ocean. Sun. Earth. Atmosphere.

Our name is inspired by nature’s elements: Ocean. Sun. Earth. Atmosphere. It’s our philosophy and practice that we protect the elements that we draw from. And just in case you're wondering, it's pronounced "oh-SEE-ah."

2. Clean Beauty Since 1996

Founded in 1996 in Malibu, California, OSEA set a new industry standard, creating safe and effective seaweed-infused skincare with a holistic approach to wellness and self-care. Today it’s called clean beauty, but in the OSEA family, it is what it has always been–the belief that our connection to nature is essential to our collective wellbeing.

3. Mother and Daughter Founded

OSEA is rooted in over 100 years of multigenerational female wisdom and our family’s unwavering belief in the healing power of the sea. OSEA's founder, Jenefer, began her career as a Spa Director and body healer trained in Polarity Therapy, Acupressure, Shiatsu and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

Her daughter, Mellissa, is OSEA’s Co-Founder and CEO. We're proud to share a brand with a rich heritage that's rooted in our family’s values.

4. Seaweed is OSEA's Source

Seaweed is truly amazing! It's one of nature's most nutrient-dense superfoods, packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that your skin will love. That's why OSEA sources different types of seaweed from around the world and use it as the star ingredient in our products.

5. Sustainable From the Start

Every decision and every product we make considers the impact on our planet and collective wellbeing. Nearly three decades ago, we chose to formulate our products with vegan and cruelty-free ingredients.

In 2000 we became vegan certified by PETA and Cruelty Free-certified by Leaping Bunny International. In 2020 we became one of the first skincare companies to be Climate Neutral Certified, and in 2022 we took it one step further, becoming an Ocean Positive verified brand.

Each year, we offset 100% of our carbon footprint and invest in coastal restoration projects that help sequester carbon from the atmosphere. It's our way of giving back to the planet that gives us so much!
